Head-to-Head Comparison

Figo vs. MetLife

100% reimbursement and 1-day accident wait vs. zero-day coverage and Family Plans

Last updated: March 2026Compared by Mike (AAI, PRC, SBCS, CCIC)2 min read

Our Verdict

Figo wins on the headline coverage features — the 100% reimbursement option is rare and the 1-day accident wait is the shortest available outside MetLife's zero-day rule. MetLife wins on financial scale, multi-pet structure, and ultimately a slightly faster accident-coverage start.

Licensed Insurance Professional (AAI, PRC, SBCS, CCIC)

Both of these carriers compete for the same buyer — pet owners who want fast coverage and meaningful customization — but they do it from opposite ends of the company spectrum. Figo is a tech-forward 2012 startup with the best app in the industry (Pet Cloud) and a 100% reimbursement option that almost nobody else offers. MetLife is a 165-year-old Fortune 100 insurer with the deepest balance sheet in pet insurance and a zero-day accident waiting period that beats Figo's 1-day window by 24 hours. That sounds trivial, but I have had clients file accident claims on day one with MetLife that Figo would have rejected.

Where Figo earns my recommendation is the 100% reimbursement tier — for a pet owner who can absorb a higher premium in exchange for zero coinsurance after the deductible, Figo is the only path. MetLife caps at 90%. The Pet Cloud app is also genuinely better than MetLife's claims interface. But for multi-pet households, MetLife's Family Plan and shared deductible tilt the math.

For single-pet owners who want maximum reimbursement, Figo. For everyone else, MetLife.
